"Getting to Know" Kawa Stream

Where is Kawa Stream?(opens in a new window)

On Saturday, August 31st, the KBAC Stream Awareness Survey was introduced at an open community workshop and then field tested at Kawa Stream. The survey team of nine looked at a fifty-foot stretch of stream behind the Community Association on Mokulele Drive in Kāne‘ohe. The survey focuses on five stream conditions: water clarity, stream life, the near by land use, and channel and streamside features.

Each team member evaluated the separate conditions, reporting a low to high rating, and then summed the totals. The total scores ranked that section of the stream in "good condition". The purpose of the survey is to promote awareness and to identify areas that may benefit from future restoration efforts and activities that will help improve water quality.

Various teachers, community mentors, and organizations have expressed interest in using/offering the survey once finalized. Comments and feedback were suggested and incorporated into the revised draft and can be found here.
