On Saturday May 25, 2002, biologist and KBAC member Ron Walker lead KBAC's first Community Stream Walk. As the group walked approximately 1.5 miles, Ron discussed the impacts of sedimentation on water quality and what to do to reduce it.
Kamo‘oali‘i Stream is a major water course feeding Loko Waimaluhia, the 32 acre lake within Ho‘omaluhia park. Water quality, including the degree of sedimentation, is influenced by what substances are picked up along these drainages. Human facilities and activities upstream include the H-3 corridor, banana plantations, power lines, a golf course and hiking and hunting trails. Feral pigs are numerous in the forested areas.
