"Getting to Know He‘eia Stream

Where is He‘eia Stream? (opens in a new window)

On Saturday July 13th 2002, the Kailua Bay Advisory Council sponsored the He'eia Community Stream Walk led by Carole McLean, the Executive Director for the Friends of He‘eia State Park.

Over 25 participants met at the visitors center where Carole gave a brief overview of The Friends of He'eia's mission and their current stream restoration efforts. The group proceeded down to the stream to find newly planted hau, milo and naupaka plants to help stabilize the near shore environment. Participants also got a close look at the invasive mangrove trees that interfere with the flow of stream water.

After the guided walk, Carole invited us to check out the nearshore fringing reef via her outrigger canoe. It was hard work getting the canoe pass the low tide mark but well worth it.
