"Getting to Know" Hakipu‘u Stream

Where is Hakipu‘u Stream? (opens in new window)

On Saturday April 26, 2003 approximately 15 community members participated in the KBAC Hakipu‘u Stream Walk, lead by community member, Kaipo Faris. We met just past the Coral Kingdom Gift Shop off of Kamehameha Highway.

Kaipo lead us down the the stream and under the highway to the house of a good friend of his, Kay Lynch, who grows native ferns in her back yard. The process to grow a fern is quit involved, and requires much patience. After maturity the ferns are transplanted into four-inch pots (four years later) and then sold to local nurseries. Kay was kind enough to share the methods of propagation she has used and then toured us around her property.

The participants were then gathered up again to partake in the Awareness Survey down towards the waters edge. Overall the Survey scores reflected that the stream was in good condition.
