Sorry!
The Stream Awareness Survey is new and
we don't have any South Kane'ohe data yet!
If you'd like to get involved, drop us a line using the "Feedback" button or give Liz a call at 291-1116.
Water Clarity
A clean and healthy stream that meets EPA’s water quality standards is both fishable and swimmable. When acts of nature or human activities impact the natural conditions of a stream, the clear water can become cloudy or show other unhealthy signs.
Stream Life
In order for fish and other stream life to survive, water temperature, oxygen and pH levels must be within a certain range.
Channel Features
Natural stream channels provide habitat for stream life and allow the stream to efficiently move water without harming the environment.
Streamside Features
The area beside a stream is called a “buffer zone”. The buffer zone may contain tress, grasses, and shrubs, which help to prevent erosion, and filter pollutants before they can enter a stream.
Land Use
Many land uses and activities can impact streams, coastal areas, beaches, and even the coral reefs.
3D Imagery of Ko'olaupoko
After clicking a direction on the 3D viewer, you will be presented with a view of the region looking in the direction you have selected. For example, if you click "N", the image will be as though you are standing in the South looking Northwards.
Make your own 3-D view!
Did you know that you can create your own customized 3-dimensional views of Ko'olaupoko using KBAC's website? You can!
When you create your you own 3D map, you will be able to rotate, zoom and tilt your map however you like.
How to get started:
1) Load the Website
Go to http://imf.geocortex.net/mapping/kailua/launch.html, and click "Launch Map Viewer". A map showing Ko'olaupoko should appear.
Macintosh Users: You need to be using Netscape Navigator to create 3D maps.
2) Customize your Map
To the right of the map will be a number of folders, and each contains a number of layers. Use the checkboxes to select the layers you want to be visible on your 3D map.
Zoom in to the
area of the map you are interested in. The more zoomed in you are to an
area before you create your 3D landscape, the better your
resolution will be..
3) Render your Landscape
To begin your
adventure, click the
icon at the top of the page you opened in step 1.
Feeling a little more adventurous?
For more adventurous

and follow the instructions given above. However, when it comes time to
render your landscape, instead of clicking
,
click on the toolbox icon (
)and

. Doing
this will allow you to fly through the landscape rather simply being able
to rotate or zoom in fixed amounts. It's like being Superman!

About the Assessment
The KBAC Awareness Survey has been designed as a basic awareness tool for use by school children, community residents, and others interested in streams and improving water quality in our Ko'olaupoko watershed.
The results of the survey will provide a snap shot of a stream's conditions using five features: water clarity, stream life, channel/bank condition, stream side/buffer zone, and adjacent land use. This information will be used to help identify the various stream impacts, and future restoration efforts and activities to improve water quality.
You can click on any of the assessment icons () on the map to view the data for that part of the stream. To show assessments for this region, press the "KBAC Assessment Sites" button to the left.
