Total Suspended Solids

Total Suspended Solids are solids that either float on the surface of, or are suspended in, water or wastewater. Suspended solids can clog fish gills, either killing them directly or reducing their growth rate. Suspended solids also affect other parameters such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, and light penetration.

As TSS increases:
Temperature increases;
Oxygen decreases;
Aquatic Life decreases;
Water Quality decreases
Definitions

Total Suspended Solids:

TSS are solids in water that can be trapped by a filter. TSS can include a wide variety of material, such as silt, decaying plant and animal matter, industrial wastes, and sewage. High concentrations of suspended solids can cause many problems for stream health and aquatic life.

Total Suspended Solids Flux:

Total Suspended Solids Flux describes the amount of total suspended solids to flow past a given area in a given amount of time (e.g. mG/cm2/s)
